Vitiligo is a skin condition where white spots or white patches, which are essentially depigmented skin, appear on an individual’s body. This depigmented skin, although not dangerous from a medical perspective, can be deeply disturbing to a patient on an emotional level. This is particularly true when vitiligo is on body parts that are exposed to the public.
There are vitiligo treatments that exist that have varying degrees of success for certain individuals. One standard treatment dermatologist’s use is a corticosteroid cream. Other vitiligo treatments involve Psoralen in conjunction with ultraviolet lamps. Still newer treatments have used extremely strong ultraviolet wavelength lamps without the use of Psoralen.
There are also vitiligo treatments that involve the use of strong immunosuppressant creams in combination with ultraviolet light treatments. The medications used, Protopic and Elidel, are extremely powerful and there have been reported cases of serious side effects when using these medications. There have even been vitiligo treatments that involve surgically replacing the white-patched skin with normal skin cells using a laser.
As a person who has suffered from a mild case of vitiligo, I can understand the desperation for effective vitiligo treatments for those of you who suffer from this condition on a severe basis. As most likely sufferers know, this condition often runs in families because of the genetic component that is believed to be inherited down through the family tree. In my case, my mother had a much more serious issue with vitiligo then I did.
When I turned 16 years of age I began to notice some of the white spots appearing underneath my chin and in certain areas of my body that was not exposed to the public. As I got older many of the spots simply went away without any type of medical intervention. Therefore, I really did not seek any vitiligo treatments for myself because the white spots weren’t visible publicly and did not cause me much distress.
On the other hand, my mother tried many different types of treatments because she had the white patches of skin on her hands, arms and legs. Most of the vitiligo treatments she tried were not that successful and she eventually gave up on most of them. Then, a few years back she tried a natural, non-drug treatment called Anti-Vitiligo. She had remarkable success with the product and I would judge her before and after pictures to be similar to the pictures that you see to the right of this article.
